Bazzano is a small town located in the valley of the Samoggia river; it has about 6,170 inhabitants and has a surface of about 13.97 square kilometres. There are no surrounding villages included within its municipality.
Bazzano lies around a sort of acropolis which has very interesting historical buildings. One of the main buildings of the acropolis is the Bentivoglio's stronghold; it is a Renaissance fortress which now houses the archaeological museum Museo Civico Archeologico 'A. Crespellani'. Near the stronghold there is a church dedicated to Santo Stefano which was first mentioned in a document in 789; during the XVI and the XVII century the church was restored and modified. The acropolis includes also a bell tower and the old Cassero. The so called 'Ripa del Rivellino' links the Cassero with Bazzano's main square piazza Garibaldi; the weekly open air market is held in this square every Saturday.
In 2001 Bazzano has been awarded the title of 'Città d'arte' (town of art).
