Capugnano is a small village within the Municipality of Alto Reno Terme, located on the road which connects Porretta with Castelluccio. It is very green and its small village is surrounded by the mountains.
Until the XVI century Capugnano was an important town with a strong independent tradition. While Porretta had been conquered by the Romans, Capugnano fought back the Romans for a century and attacked several colonized towns. During the Lombard Kingdom, Capugnano always remained on the borders and engaged with crusaders, Guelphs, Ghibellines and several municipalities.
The main church of the village is dedicated to San Michele and is a very rich source of the history of the area.
The father of Guglielmo Marconi was born here, and also the painter Giovannino, a grotesque artist which is known for being subjected to the Carracci's mockery.
In the near Olmo there are some interesting XVI century rural buildings which preserve some original features, despite having been restored.
