The parish is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta; it is quite old and the first mention of it dates back to the XIV century. It is located in the green and peaceful village of Amola, just 3km from Calderino; the church is 334mt above sea level. The current building dates back to the XVIII century; it houses a very precious example of Bolognese art: Mauro Gandolfi’s "Via Crucis", made in 1792 and consisting of 14 paintings. The church also houses three canvases by Guardassoni, amongst which the "Madonna Assunta in fioriera", painted in 1858 and blessed by Pope Pius IX. The pipe organ of the church is a precious 1757 exemplar made by Pietro Agati. While the church building still retains its original features, the bell tower was rebuilt in 1946 following World War II serious damage; it was rebuilt according to its original features. Nearby the church, the XV century house Ca' dei Ghedini, although modified over the years, is an interesting example of architecture with Romanic caryatids and an ancient decorative mask. -
