The church is located on a rise just overlooking the pretty village of Castelluccio; from there, there is a beautiful panorama of the valleys of Silla and Rio Baricello.
The church was built between 1378 and 1385 and originally occupied a different area, higher up on the hill; in 1566 it collapsed and was then rebuilt in 1587 where it now lies. Between 1660 and 1690 it was widened and partially rebuilt, thanks to the funds offered by local inhabitants. The two-naves church has a remarkable canvas depicting S. Maria Assunta, officially ascribed to Canuti, although some argue that it might have been painted by Elisabetta Sirani. In one of the chapels there is a painting depicting the Saints Fabiano, Sebastiano and Rocco which is probably by Alessandro Tiarini. The chapel of the Sacred Heart hosts modern frescos by A. Nardi, stained glass works by G. Pivetta and the “Via Crucis” by E. Giarioli. -
