  • Oratory of S.Francesco and Villa Pedrazzi

    (chapels, oratories, tabernacles a Crespellano)

    via San Francesco Crespellano BO

Over the past centuries Villa Pedrazzi hosted a convent; its Romanic church is one of the oldest churches dedicated to S. Francesco.  The church is mentioned in a 1232 document called "Messale Rosso" which is held in the monastery of S. Francesco in Bologna.

The villa takes its name from the former owners, the Pedrazzi family; today, it is owned by the nuns ‘Minime dell'Addolorata’ from Bologna. In the past centuries it hosted a convent; its Romanic church is one of the oldest churches dedicated to S. Francesco. The church is mentioned in a 1232 document called "Messale Rosso" which is held in the monastery of S. Francesco in Bologna. The interior has a beautiful Romanic wooden truss which has been recently restored and remarkable memorial stones. The church also houses a precious reliquary and some sculptures. The bell tower partially lies on two thick columns, which is quite an odd technical solution. The cloister dates back to the XVII century but the original features are only partially visible today.
