The San Rocco Oratory was built in 1631 to house the papier-mache statues of the Saints Rocco and Sebastiano, who are said to have stopped the spread of the plague outbreak of 1630, which killed 23000 Bolognese inhabitants and 18000 in the Provinces.
The whole area was gravely hit by the disease, and it is said that those struck went into the fields underneath the town so as not to infest others.  Here they dug  pits where they attended death.  Once bought , the statues were brought to Vidicatico where, once erected, the plague ended.
