Getting here: About 200mt from the cross for Capugnano, which is on the main road that links Porretta with Castelluccio.

This pretty oratory lies next to the church of S. Michele in Capugnano. The history of the building is closely related to that of the homonymous brotherhood.
The earliest members of the brotherhood of the Crocifisso (or Battuti) started to gather in the middle of the XVI century in the oratory that was located where the parsonage is today; the brotherhood worshipped a XV century wooden crucifix which is now lost. Soon a strong reformed movement rose around this community; this led to the foundation of a theological seminary that really influenced local communities in these mountains. The oratory soon proved to be too small so a new and bigger one was built toward the end of the XVI century; in 1639 it was further widened. The main altarpiece dates back to 1699 and depicts the Crucifix, the Madonna, Saint John the Baptist and the kneeling Maddalena. The beautiful textured door of the oratory is surmounted by a lunette that bears the date 1692. The side altars are more recent; they are dedicated to S. Antonio Abate and to S. Benedetto dei Giacomelli and were transferred here from the parish church in 1889. The oratory is a very important institution for the history of the local community.
