Getting here: Just outside Lizzano, drive toward Vidiciatico for about 2km. Turn right and follow the sign for Pozzo-Sasso.

Sasso lies just few km from Lizzano; the ancient village is already mentioned in 753 as "Saxo Ciliano" in the famous document known as “Diploma di Astolfo”. The XIII-XIV century town hall has an interesting portal with a round arch; it was restored in 1449 and indeed this date is inscribed on a window and on other elements of the town hall. A local legend maintains that the house belonged to a queen called Silla. Worth of mention are also the XV century Casa Serantoni, later modified in the XVIII century, and the XVII century oratory of Santa Maria Annunziata, which houses a precious sculpted holy water stoup.
Santa Maria Annunziata is still celebrated every year on the Monday after Easter; in the morning, locals hold a procession with the image of the Madonna and then later on they party with food, dance and markets. It is a very traditional feast and in the past it was also meant to be a meeting opportunity for young people looking for a husband or a wife.
