(castles, towers, bell towers a Crespellano)

    via Marconi 45 Crespellano BO

This set of buildings is the centre of the town of Crespellano; in the past it was renown as “the castle”. It included a wide number of buildings and facilities: palace, horses stables, rural buildings for tools and farmers, warehouses, ice house, pigeons house, garden, orchards, forger and carpenter’s workshops; all these buildings were surrounded by walls and bushes.
Originally the building was named “Palazzo Bentivoglio”, from the homonymous family, who owned estates in the area; after the Battle of Ravenna (1512) the Bentivoglio were expelled and the palace was held by the Grassi till 1813, when the Garagnani bought it. They still own most of it, except for a part that was given to the municipality of Crespellano who intends to use it for cultural purposes. The complex of buildings included a wide number of facilities: palace, horses stables, rural buildings for tools and farmers, warehouses, ice house, pigeons house, garden, orchards, forger and carpenter’s workshops; all these buildings were surrounded by walls and bushes. The transformation of the castle into a residential mansion probably occurred at the end of the XVI century; around this time, the building was extended.
