  The station is in the centre of Porretta. The railway Bologna Porretta Pistoia was the first major communication route of the Reno Valley. The stretch Bologna - Baths of Porretta - Pistoia was started in 1856 and finished in 1863 when the new railway line was opened to the Baths of Porretta by Vittorio Emanuele II and the following year he was open to regular traffic.
