The museum originated in 1873 when the local archaeological society (“Società Archeologica Bazzanese) was established.
The first room displays items related to the Paleolithic, the Neolithic (excavated in the estates Bellaria and Motta), the middle Bronze-Age (excavated by Contu on the hill of the stronghold), the Iron Age with Villanovan and Etruscan cultures (tombs excavated in the Minelli kiln).
The second room houses Roman findings from the Sgolfo well (in the castle of Serravalle), glasses and oil lamps. The third room displays what was found in the Casini well (in Bazzano). These are two interesting examples of items that had been hidden inside wells in ancient times in order to preserve them in case of attacks and lootings. Worth of mention are two beautiful jugs made of gilded bronze with finely decorated handles; other interesting items also include a wooden ruler and remains of plants and animals.
The Roman findings include a Greek marble head of a goddess, probably Artemis.
The museum has an important didactic programme for schools.
