Church of San Rocco
(churches, baptisteries a Crespellano)via Marconi Crespellano BO
This is the second church in Crespellano and is also known as the ‘little church’; it includes a church and an oratory, both dedicated to San Rocco. It was built in 1468. Up until before the start of World War II is was home to the religious group ‘Compagnia di San Rocco e di San Sebastiano’; until 1600, the ‘compagnia’ owned a hospital and a cemetery located just next to the church. The Neoclassical interior has one aisle and an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and child with the so called ‘plague saints’, Rocco, S.Carlo Borromeo and Sebastiano. The altar houses small niches with 108 saints’ relics. Over the years the church has been part of the castle of Crespellano, later on Bentivoglio, then it belonged to the Grassi family and from 1823 it was property of the Garagnani family. -
