The parish church of the Saints Michele and Nazario in Gaggio Montano was rebuilt by Mons. Carlo Emanuele Meotti at the end of the XIX century on the ruins of an ancient Romanic church; of this former building there is only a single lancet window left.
The church was built between 1892 and 1897 by the local priest Carlo Emanuele Meotti on the ruins of an ancient church, which had a different plan; remains of the ancient apse are still partly visible. The church has a main aisle and two naves; it is supported by Doric columns, circular vaults and a beautiful dome depicting the expulsion of the rebel angels. The main altar hosts a XVII century painting depicting the Madonna and child with the Saints Michele, Antonio Abate and Nazario. The dome also features frescos painted after World War II by the Bolognese painter Luciano Bettini, depicting the four apparitions of the archangel. -
